Beliefs

Emmaus Road Church follows in a rich and historic tradition of Christian faith. We believe that in many ways our future runs through this past—a history of people who have followed Jesus Christ and sought to live out his way.

You do not need to believe all (or any!) of these points to check us out on a Sunday morning. No one will quiz you or thump you with a Bible. Faith is a journey of discovery that everyone takes at their own pace. If or when you want to talk more about what follows, let us know.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and our supreme and final authority in faith and life for us as individuals and as a church. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

We believe there is one living God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, John 1:1-3, John 4:24, Ephesians 4:5-6)

We believe God created humankind in his image, yet our sin separates us from God and leads to eternal death. All people are sinners and need God’s forgiveness. (Genesis 1:26-27, Romans 3:23-24, Romans 6:23)

We believe that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh, fully God and fully human. Through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead he offers forgiveness to all who by faith receive his gift of salvation and eternal life. (John 3:16, Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

We believe that all Christians are filled by the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion, and that the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to believe in Christ, live out his way, and continue his mission in the world. (Romans 8:9, John 14:16-17)

We believe we are encouraged and empowered by meeting regularly for worship, community, and serving. We gather to celebrate being joined to Christ in baptism and to remember his death in communion. (Hebrews 10:24-25, Acts 2:42-48)

We believe that God gives all Christians spiritual gifts to exalt God, enliven the church, and impact the world. (Romans 12:3-8, 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:1-16)

We believe in the personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
